Metsä Group invests EUR 25 million in the production of Muoto fibre packaging in Äänekoski, Finland

The Finnish company is investing 24 million € in a new production line for Muoto food packaging in Äänekoski, Finland. Metsä Group’s Muoto™ products can be used instead of plastic in food packaging for applications that are more demanding, for example. As for Metsä’s other innovation projects, the development of the lignin product and carbon capture is continuing as planned, but the conditions for the Kuura textile fibre project are estimated to have changed significantly due to the global market situation.

Metsä Group’s demo plant for a new lignin product starts up in Äänekoski

Metsä Group’s demo plant for a new lignin product has started up in Äänekoski. The plant uses lignin extracted from the bioproduct mill’s production process as its raw material and it has a nameplate capacity of two tons of a new type of lignin product per day. The plant was built in cooperation with the equipment supplier ANDRITZ. Dow, a leading materials science company, is a key partner. Metsä Group’s new lignin products are called Metsä LigO™.
