Bio-on, Italian eco-sustainable chemical company, and Gruppo Hera, one of Italy’s main multi-utility providers, have reached an agreement for the supply of clean energy thanks to the realisation and management of a new technological-energy hub that will house a newly designed trigeneration plant. The deal was signed by Bio-on S.p.A. with Hera Servizi Energia, a subsidiary of Gruppo Hera, and will guarantee clean electric energy for the new plant producing innovative biopolymers that Bio-on is currently constructing in Castel San Pietro Terme, outside Bologna (Emilia Romagna Region).
There is a new partnership in the Italian bioeconomy. Bio-on, a leading player in the new eco-sustainable chemical industry, signed a strategic agreement with Kartell, through its parent company Felofin which takes a 2% stake in Bio-on with a 10 million euro investment.
Bio-on, listed on the AIM segment of Borsa Italiana and one of the main players in the new eco-sustainable chemical industry, starting from 1st December is listed on the MSCI World Small Cap Index. This announcement arrives after the agreement between the Italian company headquartered in Bologna and International Paint Ltd (AkzoNobel) to continue their collaborative relationship thanks to excellent results achieved within Synergistic Fouling Control Technologies-SEAFRONT project, funded by the 7th Framework Programme of the European Commission

Bio-on and Kering Eyewear join forces to develop new materials based on Minerv PHAs, the revolutionary bioplastic which is 100% natural and biodegradable. “This is the first time in the world that a company in the eyewear industry has decided to carry out research with our biopolymers,” explains Marco Astorri, Chairman and CEO of Bio-on.
Two Italian companies, Bio-on and Sadam Group, has begun working on a project to develop innovative industrial processes, at competitive cost and with low environmental impact, to produce levulinic acid, a key element of the sustainable chemical industry of the future.
Bio-on, the Italian industrial biotech company, will begin producing its own special biopolymers at a new 1,000 tons/year plant to be completed in 2017 with an investment of €15 million. To announce this was Marco Astorri, chairman and Ceo of Bio-on S.p.A. who outlined to the financial community the new 2017-2020 industrial plan last week. Bio-on will manage to revive an abandoned manufactory site of Granarolo, an Italian food company which operates oin the fresh milk and dairy-cheese sector, dry pasta, deli meats and vegetable foods.
Bioplastics which are made from renewable waste plant sources, with no competition with food supply chains, and are 100% naturally biodegradable. The final phase testing Minerv PHA Supertoys for making scale models has begun, launched by Bio-on in collaboration with Italeri, the leading manufacturer of static models. The results will be presented in February 2017 in Nuremberg, Germany during the “Play and toys fair”, the sector’s largest and most prestigious event.
The cutting-edge bio-plastic Minerv-PHA developed by Bio-on is now available in the prestigious database “Materials Library” of Material ConneXion, the world’s largest resource for innovative and sustainable materials and processes. This resource, both as a physical samples library and an online searchable database, with thousands of references, aims to collect only the most interesting materials from the point of view of innovation, technical characteristics and possible application.
Bio-on, an Italian industrial biotech company, yesterday announced a major result achieved thanks to its new collaboration with Tampere University of Technology Finland, one of the most important centers in the world for research and innovation in the use of paper and plastic for food packaging. “A joint project launched in 2015 has produced for the very first time tetrapak type containers made of a combination of paper and bioplastic, namely the special grade EC (Extrusion Coating) of the Minerv PHA biopolymer”.
