LanzaTech’s Waste Gas-to-SAF Facility receives £25M Grant from UK Department for Transport Advanced Fuels Fund

Plans for the world’s first commercial-scale factory to transform waste gases into sustainable jet fuel have moved a step closer before Christmas. LanzaTech UK Ltd., a subsidiary of LanzaTech NZ, Inc., an innovative Carbon Capture and Transformation (“CCT”) company, announced that its DRAGON facility project has received a £25M (~$31M, €28,37M) grant from the UK Department for Transport’s Advanced Fuels Fund Competition. LanzaTech’s Project DRAGON, which stands for Decarbonizing and Reimagining Aviation for the Goal ONetzero, will convert waste gases into synthetic kerosene for use in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Neste and HELLENIC PETROLEUM Group have entered into an agreement for the commercial distribuito of Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuels on flights by Aegean Airlines, the leading air carrier in Greece. HELLENIC PETROLEUM Group, through its subsidiary EKO, will ensure the supply of Neste-produced sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on AEGEAN flights departing from its Thessaloniki Airport “Makedonia” hub. Flights from Athens International Airport are expected to follow soon, as Neste announced.

Coldplay is going green with Neste’s SAF

Refuel Energy joined forces with Haldor Topsoe to construct a renewable fuel plant in Ontario

Refuel Energy Inc. (Refuel) will construct a 3000 barrels per day renewable fuel plant in Southern Ontario, Canada. The proposed project, called Refuel YYZ, would supply the aviation and terrestrial fuel needs of the Greater Toronto area, home to 6 million Canadians, while lowering the CO2 emissions for the end users by up to 80%. It is also strategically located for exporting to the US Northeast.

LanzaJet takes a step forward in Georgia thanks to Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund

LanzaJet, a sustainable fuels technology company and renewable fuels producer, has secured financing for its Freedom Pines Fuels plant in Soperton, Georgia, through the Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund. The Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund has made a $50M investment to support the construction of LanzaJet’s (and the world’s) first alcohol-to-jet sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production plant. The innovative structure of Microsoft’s financing will enable LanzaJet to bring lower-cost sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel to the global market.

ExxonMobil joined forces with Neste to distribute SAF at France’s largest airports

Aviation fuel supplier ExxonMobil has reached an agreement with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) producer Neste to commercially distribute Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel at France’s largest airports. The move comes after the French Government introduced the 1% SAF mandate, which has come into force from 1 January.

Enerkem achieved a major breakthrough in converting carbon from forest biomass into SAF

Enerkem, a world leader in the production of biofuels from waste materials based in Canada, achieved a major breakthrough in converting carbon from forest biomass into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) using its proprietary thermochemical process. This important milestone was achieved at Enerkem’s Innovation Centre in Westbury, Quebec.  It will be followed by the demonstration phase, which will lead to commercialization in the near future. This research is part of The Sky’s the Limit Challenge organized by Natural Resources Canada and for which Enerkem was selected as a finalist.

Deutsche Post DHL Group partnered with Neste to use SAF at the UK’s East Midlands airport

As part of the COP26 climate conference, Deutsche Post DHL Group has announced a further step towards introducing climate-friendly aviation logistics. The Group has agreed a new partnership with Neste1 to supply the DHL Express division with Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) at the UK’s East Midlands Airport. In total, DHL will purchase SAF for more than EUR 60 million by mid- 2022, reducing around 70,000 tons of CO2. This is a first step for the Group to reach its ambitious 2030 target of meeting at least 30 per cent of its fuel needs in aviation through sustainable fuels.
