Industrial transformation was the focus of a meeting at the Gazometro, organised yesterday by Versalis, Eni’s chemical company, together with partners and customers. The event, titled “Versalis: from polymers to markets” provided an opportunity to engage with supply-chain companies on the challenges and opportunities tied to Versalis’ transformation plan. The company is pursuing a major programme increasingly focused on portfolio specialisation, circularity, biochemistry and innovation.

Eni set outs its transformation, decarbonization and relaunch plan for Versalis

As first announced at the presentation of its 2024-2027 Strategic Plan, Eni has finalized its transformation and relaunch plan for its chemicals business, also as part of its decarbonization path. The transformation plan involves about 2 billion euros of investment and aims to reduce emissions by approximately 1 million tonnes of CO2, currently about 40% of Versalis’ emissions in Italy.

Last Friday European Commission gave the green light to Novamont’s purchase by Versalis. In April the Eni’s chemical company and a shareholder of Novamont (36%) and Mater-Bi – a company controlled by Investitori Associati II and NB Renaissance – signed an agreement for Versalis to acquire the remaining 64% of Novamont’s shares currently held by Mater-Bi. Novamont is a leading international company in the field of chemistry from renewable sources.

Versalis, the chemical division of Italian oil giant Eni, met last week in Rome with representatives of national and local trade unions to present its business plan for the next four years. According to the company, more than 1.1 billion euros have been spent in the last four years and the plan is to continue with investments focused on four strategic areas: specialization, circularity, chemistry from renewables and efficiency.

Versalis has begun the production of bioethanol from lignocellulosic biomass in North-western Italy

Versalis, Eni’s chemical company, has begun the production of bioethanol from lignocellulosic biomass at Crescentino (Vercelli, North-western Italy). The plant, which was acquired in 2018, has been overhauled thanks to major investments and has started the production of advanced bioethanol, in compliance with the European legislation for the development of renewable energy RED II, as it is derived from raw materials that do not interfere with the food chain.
