After nine months of intense debates, the G20 Initiative on Bioeconomy (GIB), which was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, established the 10 High-Level Principles on Bioeconomy as a result of a meeting of technicians from the forum’s member countries. This is the first time that the bioeconomy has been the subject of a multilaterally agreed document devoted to this topic.

COPILOT – a Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking CSA project coordinated by the Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant – has opened two Open Calls with the aim to select the members for two co-creation groups for the platform and its activities: Open Call 1 will select 10 Pilot and Demo Infrastructures, Open Call 2 will select 15 Bioeconomy Innovators.

LanzaTech, the Illonois-headquartered carbon recycling company, has been awarded a contract by Jackson Green, a new energy transition platform, to provide their 4G ethanol technology to India’s largest power generation utility company NTPC Limited. NTPC’s facility in Central India will use LanzaTech’s technology platform and second generation bioreactor to convert CO2 emissions and green H2 into ethanol.
Poste Italiane’s ground and air fleet will run on biofuels supplied by Enilive, Eni’s company dedicated to mobility services and products. This will accelerate Poste Italiane’s progress towards achieving its energy transition and carbon neutrality goals set for 2030.
Neste and Mitsubishi Corporation established a strategic partnership focusing on developing value chains for renewable chemicals and plastics for and with Japanese brands. The partners are targeting brands in industries such as food and beverage, apparel, and consumer electronics. Through the partnership, Neste and MC aim to accelerate their efforts to build defossilized supply chains for brand owners in Japan.
Stuttgart, Germany, is the first city in Europe to launch its own bioeconomy strategy. Il Bioeconomista has interviewed Dr. Max Schuchardt, who developed the bioeconomy strategy of the City of Stuttgart, and Dr. Elisabeth Saken-Braunstein, who is leading the bioeconomy team at the Ministry of Environement, Climate and Energy and the strategic development of the urban and industrial bioeconomy strategy section in the Amendment of the bioeconomy strategy of Baden-Württemberg.
