Novonesis will expand its facility in Patalganga and build one of the world’s most advanced enzyme production facilities. The €600 million investment will increase Novonesis’ production capacity to meet rising worldwide demand for the company’s biosolutions and strengthen the flexibility and resilience of its global supply network.

According to the India Tribune, “over the past decade, India has emerged as one of the fastest-growing bioeconomies in the world, with the sector expanding to $165.7 billion in 2024 from just $10 billion in 2014”. With an ambitious target of $300 billion by 2030, the bioeconomy is steadily becoming a cornerstone of India’s sustainable growth and innovation, driven by advancements in biotechnology, agricultural innovation, biomanufacturing, and healthcare. Indeed in the concept of bioeconomy in India the biopharmaceuticals is also included.
India is taking decisive steps toward decarbonizing its aviation sector, with a SAF blending mandate targeting 1% by 2027 and 2% by 2028. In line with this national goal, Praj Industries, International Air Transport Association (IATA), and Indian Sugar & Bio-energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA) have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to drive the certification and adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in the country.
LanzaTech, the Illonois-headquartered carbon recycling company, has been awarded a contract by Jackson Green, a new energy transition platform, to provide their 4G ethanol technology to India’s largest power generation utility company NTPC Limited. NTPC’s facility in Central India will use LanzaTech’s technology platform and second generation bioreactor to convert CO2 emissions and green H2 into ethanol.
India’s Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi unveiled first Indian 2G Ethanol Bio-Refinery at Panipat Haryana. This project is based on Praj’s proprietary technology processing rice straw as feedstock for production of Ethanol.
Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), a leading Indian Refining company based in Mangalore, is planning to install a second generation (2G) ethanol facility in the State of Karnataka, India.
