Suntory introduces 100% Plant-Based PET bottle prototypes thanks to a partnership with Anellotech

Suntory Group, as a crucial step toward its aim to use 100% sustainable PET bottles globally by 2030 and eliminate all petroleum-based virgin plastic from its global PET supply, has successfully created a prototype PET bottle made from 100% plant-based materials. The prototype has been produced for the company’s iconic Orangina brand in Europe along with its best-selling bottled mineral water brand in Japan, Suntory Tennensui. This achievement marks a breakthrough after a nearly decade-long partnership with the US-based sustainable technology company Anellotech.

Enerkem achieved a major breakthrough in converting carbon from forest biomass into SAF

Enerkem, a world leader in the production of biofuels from waste materials based in Canada, achieved a major breakthrough in converting carbon from forest biomass into sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) using its proprietary thermochemical process. This important milestone was achieved at Enerkem’s Innovation Centre in Westbury, Quebec.  It will be followed by the demonstration phase, which will lead to commercialization in the near future. This research is part of The Sky’s the Limit Challenge organized by Natural Resources Canada and for which Enerkem was selected as a finalist.

Ferrari Formula 1 goes green with Brazilian energy company Raizen SA

Europe’s most promising university students presented their projects to develop the bioeconomy during a contest launched by BIC

Contribute to the sustainability of society by designing a bio-based product or process. This was the task set for pioneering student teams participating in the third edition of the European Biobased Student Innovation Challenge 2021. The five finalists presented their innovative projects to a jury consisting of leading experts from across the bio-based sector. The combined votes from the expert jury and an audience of bio-based industry representatives decided which of the top five teams was the overall winner of BioSYNERGISE 2021, an event organised by the Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC). Team WaterSkins from the Netherlands rose to the top with their innovative idea to harness wastewater to produce a leather-like material.

Clariant completed its sunliquid® cellulosic ethanol plant in Romania

Clariant, a focused, sustainable and innovative specialty chemical company, last Friday announced the official completion of its sunliquid® cellulosic ethanol plant in Podari, Romania. The completed construction is an important next step for the commercial deployment of sunliquid® technology and thus supports Clariant’s sunliquid® licensing business strategy. The facility will be operational in the fourth quarter, producing cellulosic ethanol from agricultural residues.
