Short agro-industrial chains for bioproducts: Novamont and Coldiretti sign strategic agreement

“A project to establish an agricultural sector which respects the region, which enhances the value of abandoned and unirrigated land in order to feed into the first integrated biorefinery model in the region. It will be in synergy with the food production chain and centred on high value-added products which can reduce and replace higher-impact raw materials sourced from further afield.” This is the core of the agreement signed by Catia Bastioli, CEO of Novamont and Matrìca (a 50/50 joint venture between Novamont and Versalis), Roberto Moncalvo, chairman of Coldiretti, and Mauro Tonello, chairman of Consorzi Agrari d’Italia (CAI), for the creation of innovative agro-industrial chains to create short-chain biolubricants and bioplastics.

Alkol Biotech has started shipping of its EUnergy Cane sugarcane hybrid grown in Spain

Alkol Biotech – a Spanish research company focused on the development of new plant varieties adapted to the needs of specific biofuel markets – has started shipping of its EUnergyCane sugarcane hybrid grown in Spain. The customer, a danish provider of cellulosic ethanol technologies, will use the hybrid to test its technologies aiming to the increasingly large cellulosic ethanol in Brazil, and is receiving it as dry bagasse.

Lux Research: Bio-based materials and chemicals from emerging technologies will rise to over 7.4 million metric tons in 2018

France raised the maximum level of biofuels in diesel sold at services stations

In addition to Italy, Brazil, Malaysia and China, also Slovak Republic will have a biorefinery to produce second-generation bioethanol, which will use Proesa technology developed by the Mossi Ghisolfi Group. Biochemtex and Beta Renewables signed a definitive agreement with Energochemica SE – a Slovakian chemical and power industry holding company – for the construction of a 2nd Generation Ethanol plant and the annexed Energy Block for the generation of power and steam.

Evolva completes share sale related to Allylix acquisition

Evolva Holding SA has completed the placing of all shares earmarked to satisfy certain liabilities and transaction expenses related to the Allylix acquisition, a privately held yeast fermentation company with a focus on high-value ingredients, as announced on 16 December 2014. A total of 6.1 million shares were sold between 16 and 19 December. One Swiss investment fund acquired a block of five million shares. The transaction has no impact on the number of outstanding Evolva shares.

Novozymes will stick to its plans to develop transportation fuel made from agricultural waste

Denmark’s Novozymes , the world’s largest enzymes producer, will stick to its plans to develop transportation fuel made from agricultural waste, despite an oil price rout that has left oil-based products cheaper for consumers. Some analysts have expressed concern that a lower crude oil price might dampen investor interest in alternatives, but Novozymes said on Thursday that it aims to provide enzymes to 15 advanced bioethanol plants by 2017, up from five, generating 1 billion Danish crowns ($165.7 million) in revenue.
