Big corn, big oil both blast President Trump biofuel plan at EPA hearing
According to Thomson Reuters, “corn farmers, ethanol producers, refinery representatives, energy traders and state and local officials from the Midwest all blasted away at the Trump administration’s proposed biofuels plan for next year during a public hearing on Wednesday hosted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).”
Ineos Olefins & Polymers Europe goes green
Ineos Olefins & Polymers Europe announced a range of Bio-Attributed Olefins and Polyolefins, based on renewable bio-based raw materials that do not compete with food production. Products will be supplied from the Ineos Koeln site, Germany, later this year. The company stated that bio-attribution measures the extent to which fossil fuel-derived feedstocks have been substituted by renewable or bio-feedstocks.

Avantium joined the Paper Bottle Project to develop new sustainable packaging material
The Paper Bottle Company (Paboco®) – a joint venture between paper packaging material developer BillerudKorsnäs and bottle manufacturing specialist ALPLA – last Friday announced at the Paboco Pioneer Community Event in the Carlsberg Academy in Copenhagen that Avantium joins the Paper Bottle Project. Avantium will be one of the technology providers for the fully plant-based and recyclable Paper Bottle. A thin layer of Avantium’s PEF (polyethylene furanoate) will provide the Paper Bottle with the high barrier properties (the ability to withstand gas permeability through the bottle) needed for beverages such as beer and carbonated soft drinks.
