Bio-on and Gruppo HERA joined forces to produce PHAs biopolymers using CO2

Bio-on, a global leader in the high quality bioplastic sector, and Gruppo Hera, one of Italy’s largest multi-utility providers, reached an agreement to take 90% and 10% shares respectively (with the possibility of Hera increasing its share to 49.9%) in Lux-on, the new company founded by Bio-on aiming to revolutionise the production of PHAs biopolymers using CO2 captured from the atmosphere and producing energy without using fossil fuels.

Total Corbion PLA started-up in Thailand the second-largest PLA bioplastics plant in the world

Total Corbion PLA, a 50/50 joint venture between French oil giant Total and Dutch biochemical company Corbion, yesterday announced the start-up of its 75,000 tons per year PLA (Poly Lactic Acid) bioplastics plant in Rayong, Thailand. The plant has successfully produced Luminy® PLA resins, a bioplastic that provides a valuable contribution towards the circular economy being biobased and biodegradable and offering multiple environmentally-friendly waste solutions.

Phillips 66 and REG joined forces for a large-scale renewable diesel plant on the U.S. West Coast

US companies Phillips 66 and Renewable Energy Group, Inc. joined forces for the construction of a large-scale renewable diesel plant on the U.S. West Coast. The plant would utilize REG’s proprietary BioSynfining® technology for the production of renewable diesel fuel. Planned feedstocks include a mix of waste fats, oils and greases, including regionally-sourced vegetable oils, animal fats and used cooking oil.
