TotalEnergies Corbion: no technical barrier exist that prevent an effective separation of PLA from other plastic waste

With the aim of determining the sortability of PLA from municipal mixed plastic waste, TotalEnergies Corbion and TOMRA Recycling conducted a sorting test in August 2022. The outcome confirmed, as has been confirmed many times before – the French-Dutch company claims – that sorting PLA from other plastics waste is easy and straight-forward.

Neste and Marathon established a 50/50 JV to produce renewable diesel in California

In the US Biden launched a new Initiative to accelerate biotechnology innovation and grow bioeconomy

President Biden signed an Executive Order to launch a US National Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Initiative that “will ensure we can make in the United States all that we invent in the United States. This Initiative will create jobs at home, build stronger supply chains, and lower prices for American families”. Yesterday, the White House hosted a Summit on the National Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Initiative during which cabinet agencies announced a wide range of new investments and resources that will allow the United States to harness the full potential of biotechnology and biomanufacturing and advance the President’s Executive Order.

Basf and Sulzer Chemtech joined forces to advance technologies for renewable fuels

Basf and Sulzer Chemtech (GTC Technology) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the goal of advancing technologies for renewable fuels and chemically recycled plastics that will further expand the partners’ portfolio of sustainable solutions. The companies agreed to enter a strategic partnership to reduce the carbon intensity of renewable diesel and aviation fuel. They will also drive the development of innovative, cost-effective chemical processing solutions to improve the conversion of plastic waste into new plastics. The collaboration combines complementary areas of expertise, integrating Sulzer Chemtech’s capabilities in licensed processing technologies and mass transfer equipment with BASF’s cutting-edge high-performance adsorbents and catalysts.
